Domain renewal and expiry · Galaxium Hosting help

How domains renew each year, how to renew early, and what happens if a domain expires.

Domains are registered for a set number of years. Before the end date you renew, or the domain expires and can eventually be registered by someone else.

See when a domain expires

How renewal is billed

Every registered or transferred domain has a yearly subscription. It renews like your other services: a renewal invoice is issued ahead of the date, account credit is applied first, and with auto-renew on and a saved card the rest is charged automatically. See Renewals, auto-renew and overdue invoices.

The renewal price is the yearly renewal price for that extension. It can differ from the first-year price, so check Renewal price on the domain's Overview.

Auto-renew

The Auto-renew switch is on the domain's Overview. It is on by default when you register.

Only the account owner, or a team member allowed to change billing, can switch auto-renew.

Renew early

Where the domain's Overview shows a Renew button, you can add years now:

A domain can be registered at most 10 years ahead, so the year list stops there. If there is no Renew button, the domain renews automatically on its renewal date while auto-renew is on.

If a domain expires

| Time after the expiry date | What happens | |---|---| | Days 0–30 (grace period) | The domain stops working: websites and email on it go down. You can still renew it at the normal price. | | After 30 days (redemption) | The domain can only be restored, and a restore fee applies. Open a billing ticket. |

Warning: If a domain isn't restored, the registry releases it and anyone can register it. Renew well before the date if the name matters to you.

If your domain has expired and there's no way to renew it on its page, pay any open renewal invoice in Invoices, or open a billing ticket and we'll help.

Let a domain go

Turn off Auto-renew and let it expire. Once a domain has expired, the account owner or a team member with Full access can remove it with Remove domain on its Overview. Active domains can't be removed: let them expire, or transfer them to another registrar.
