Domain privacy, contacts and the transfer lock · Galaxium Hosting help

Hide your details from public lookups, keep your domain locked, change its contacts, and move it to another registrar.

Every domain has an owner (the registrant) and contact details that registries keep on file. These settings are on the domain's Overview and Contacts pages.

WHOIS privacy

Public lookups (WHOIS and RDAP) can show the owner's name, email, phone and address. WHOIS privacy hides them. It is free and on by default for new registrations.

Some extensions don't allow privacy under their registry rules, for example .us. The switch then says the extension's policy doesn't allow it.

Transfer lock

The Transfer lock blocks anyone from moving your domain to another registrar. Keep it on unless you are about to transfer out.

Removing it asks you to confirm with Unlock domain. Only the account owner or a team member with Full access can unlock a domain, because it can hand the domain to someone else.

Change the domain's contacts

Contacts come from your contact profiles. Create or edit a profile there first.

Note: Changing the registrant's name, organization or email is a "change of registrant" under the domain rules. It locks the domain against transfers for 60 days, unless you tick the opt-out. Only opt out if the current registrant agreed and you may need to move the domain soon.

Registries send verification mail to the registrant's email. Use an address you check.

Move a domain to another registrar

Generate new code replaces the code if you think it was shared. Viewing a code is recorded in the domain's Activity log.

Transfers are refused for 60 days after a registration, a transfer in, or a change of registrant. The Transfer out card shows the date when that applies.

Warning: Anyone with the auth code can request a transfer once the domain is unlocked. Never post it in a ticket or on Discord.
